About Julie Thomason
Meet the person behind the practice.
Counselling, Sex Therapy, & Supervision for Women Online across BC
I'm Julie Thomason, a therapist with nearly a decade of clinical experience and a PhD Candidate in Clinical Sexology. I'm one of the only therapists in the Fraser Valley with this level of specialized training in sexuality and relationships, alongside deep experience in trauma, ADHD, and domestic abuse. I bring real, lived-in empathy to this work, not just clinical training.
Who I Support
My practice is a safe, inclusive space for women and gender-diverse individuals seeking support, growth, or healing. I work with women's health, sexuality, and relationships, as well as trauma, ADHD, and perimenopause. To learn more about what I work with, see my Therapy Services page.
My Professional Background
I completed my Master's in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University in 2016, became a Registered Clinical Counsellor in 2017, and I'm now a PhD Candidate in Clinical Sexology, working toward certification as a Sex Therapist. View my full CV here.
A Bit About Me
Before I was a therapist, I was a former competitive athlete in gymnastics and karate, a world traveller and solo backpacker, a self-employed small business owner, and an artist trained in painting and photography.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in genuine connection. Colleagues describe me as radically authentic, down-to-earth, and humorously candid, and that's exactly what you'll find in session: real conversation, not polite small talk, with room for some laughter. I create a safe, trauma-informed space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore your mental, emotional, sexual, and relational health. Together, we'll draw on your strengths and help you rewrite a more fulfilling story. Let's start a conversation.

Yes, come exactly as you are, bad hair day and all. I'm not judging your outfit or your hair, so throw on your sweatpants, don't mind the cookie crumbs, and let's have a conversation. This isn't a job interview.
-
Yes, just about everyone cries in session. It's simply how emotion moves through the body, and there's no shame in it.
-
Absolutely. If that's how you naturally express yourself, go for it. I'll probably drop an F-bomb here or there myself when it fits. As long as we're not swearing at each other, it's all good.
-
That's okay. I'll help you have a better experience this time. Sometimes it's the fit, sometimes the approach didn't match what you needed, and sometimes your last therapist just talked too much. I'll help you understand what happened and set realistic expectations from here.
-
That's completely okay. I'm endlessly curious, and I could ask genuinely good questions all day long. Keeping the conversation going is what I do best, so you never have to worry about it.
-
Your feelings matter. You don't have to compare your story to anyone else's, though I know almost every trauma survivor does. Whatever you've been through, and however you feel about it, it's worth talking about. I'm here to support you through it.
