Perimenopause Support
The era you become exactly who you are.
Virtual across BC
Do you feel like you've lost yourself?
Maybe it's waking up exhausted no matter how much you slept, or lying awake at 3am when your body should be resting. Maybe it's a fog that makes you lose your words mid-sentence, or forget why you walked into a room. Maybe you've felt more irritable, more tearful, or more unpredictable than you recognize in yourself. Maybe your desire has quietly faded. Whatever it looks like for you, no one warned you it would feel like this. You're not imagining it, and you're not alone.
Here's what I help women work through
I offer emotional support as you go through this experience, along with education about what's happening for you. I can also help with your mental health, as it often shows up alongside perimenopause, including trauma, ADHD, and relationship strain. Sexuality can often shift as well, whether that's changes in desire, comfort, or how you feel in your body. If it's helpful, I can work collaboratively with your other healthcare providers, and refer you when needed. This is a real, transformational life stage, and I'm here to support you through it.
Julie Thomason, RCC-ACS
PhD Candidate in Clinical Sexology
Hi, I'm Julie. I love working with women through perimenopause because I get to help you make sense of changes that so often go unexplained and unsupported. At 47, I'm navigating this transformation myself, alongside my clinical training, which shapes how personally I understand this work. I'd be honoured to walk alongside you through it.
Here is how we begin
Getting started doesn't have to be complicated, even when everything else feels like it is.
-
A consultation is a no-pressure, friendly conversation to discuss your goals and to see if we're the right fit. It also gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have.
-
During the consultation, if it feels right for both of us, we'll book your first session.
-
In your first session, we'll talk through what brought you here and start building a plan to address it, together.
My Approach to Perimenopause Support
My approach starts with listening closely, so I can understand what's going on for you. From there, I bring awareness and education to help you make sense of it. Perimenopause often starts earlier than anticipated, and shows up differently than expected. It can look like brain fog, heart palpitations, night sweats, or low desire, even if your cycle still feels normal. Many women come in talking about anxiety, weight changes, or strain in their marriage, and part of my role is recognizing the patterns underneath these challenges. Whatever you're going through, you don't have to go through this without support, and I'd love to be part of it.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Perimenopause can look different for everyone, and it doesn't always come with obvious signs like irregular periods. Many women notice changes in mood, sleep, energy, or focus first. If something feels different and you're not sure why, that's worth exploring together.
-
Yes. Hormonal shifts during perimenopause can affect your nervous system, and anxiety, heart palpitations, and other physical symptoms are common, even if you've never experienced anxiety before. You're not imagining it, and it's not just in your head.
-
It's normal to feel confused, uncertain, or distressed by what you're noticing. This stage isn't forever, it's part of a larger transformation, one that many women find leads somewhere meaningful, even if it doesn't feel that way right now. I can help you make sense of it, and that's exactly the kind of work we can do together.
-
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is prescribed by a doctor or specialist. I work closely with your healthcare providers and can support you in understanding your options and advocating for the care you need.
-
Yes. Changes in desire, comfort, and how you feel in your body are common during this transition. For some women, this stage also becomes a chance to redefine intimacy and sexuality on their own terms. It's absolutely something we can talk about, and I also offer dedicated sex therapy if you'd like to go deeper.
-
Stress and perimenopause can have some similarities, but if something is being dismissed too quickly, it's worth talking to a different healthcare provider who will take your concerns seriously. I'd be glad to sit down with you, listen to your concerns, and help you make sense of it.
