Meet Your Supervisor, Julie Thomason

I know what it's like to feel stuck early in this work and get nothing useful back from a supervisor. That's part of why I've spent over five years supervising interns and clinicians since becoming an RCC in 2017, including running a live-supervision model at Chilliwack Youth Health Centre and serving as an Approved Practicum Supervisor for Yorkville University.

When we work together, I’ll meet you exactly where you are, and gently invite you to grow. Supervision is casual enough to have a laugh, and productive enough to get real work done. In supervision with me, you'll get support as well as concrete, actionable steps to take; research to look into, screeners to run, training worth pursuing, so you leave with something you can actually use. Whatever you're navigating in your clinical work, I'm here when you're ready. I’ll help you or I’ll help you find someone who can help you!

  • Are you working through your practicum and not sure who to turn to with your questions? I'll help you build your clinical skills and confidence, providing real feedback and concrete, actionable steps you can put into practice. Sessions are virtual and can fit around your practicum schedule.

  • Are you a registered clinical counsellor who feels stuck on a case, or just wants a second opinion? I'll help you think it through, with concrete next steps, whether you need one session or ongoing support.

  • Are you a registered clinical counsellor hoping to become a supervisor yourself one day? I'll help you build clinical judgment, ethical grounding, and the teaching skills to guide others, so you're ready to work toward your own ACS designation.

My Approach to Supervision

My supervision style is collaborative, strengths-based and trauma-informed, with a strong foundation in systemic, attachment-based, and culturally humble care. I can approach supervision as a supportive guide, a consultant, a coach, or I can be more directive when your clinical growth or a client's safety calls for it.

My clinical background is varied and integrative, drawing on emotion-focused, cognitive, narrative, and somatic therapy, and I'll help you bring whichever approach the research supports to the case in front of us. Most clients present with more than one issue at once, so I favor an adaptable, multimodal approach to client care.

We'll work through case conceptualization and treatment planning together. I also make space to explore how your own history, mental health, or relationships show up in your clinical work, because that awareness makes you a better clinician. Whether you're just starting out or refining years of practice, you'll have an experienced, grounded partner in the room with you.

At the heart of ethical, meaningful, and effective clinical work lies the support of a trusted supervisor.

Frequently Asked Questions: Supervision

  • Supervision is $175.00 per hour.

  • Yes, I offer consultations for therapists, healthcare professionals, and anyone who could benefit from one. It's a great way to get a second opinion or talk through something specific, without committing to ongoing therapy or supervision.

  • I currently offer individual supervision only, so our sessions are one-on-one.

  • I'm equipped and experienced to support cases involving youth as well as adults, though most of my supervisees are adult-focused.

  • BCACC draws a real distinction between the two. Supervision is an ongoing and evaluative process, with the supervisor sharing some responsibility for your client care. Consultation is an occasional, one-off conversation with no evaluative component, meant to answer questions you have.

  • The frequency of supervision is entirely up to you. Some people meet weekly, others monthly, or just as needed, based on what fits your practice.

  • Sessions are held over video, with phone available if that's your preference.

  • BCACC requires 100 hours of clinical supervision for RCC registration, with at least 25 of those hours directly observed. Please confirm with BCACC as requirements can change.

  • Yes, I provide documentation for your supervision hours toward registration or your ACS designation.
